Introduction
At Mrityunjay Yogpeeth, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of ethical behaviour, respect, and professionalism in all aspects of our yoga teacher training programs. This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for management, faculty, staff, and students to ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment rooted in the core values of yoga: truth, non-violence, discipline, compassion, and integrity.
1. Scope
This Code of Conduct applies to:
- All trainees (students) enrolled in teacher training programs.
- All trainers, teachers, and faculty members.
- Administrative and operational staff.
- Visiting teachers or guest speakers.
- Volunteers and associated personnel.
2. General Ethical Principles
All members of the Mrityunjay Yogpeeth community are expected to:
- Act with integrity: Be honest and transparent in all communications and actions.
- Respect others: Maintain a respectful attitude toward fellow students, teachers, staff, and the larger community.
- Promote safety and inclusivity: Foster an environment where everyone feels safe, included, and supported.
- Commit to personal growth: Approach learning with humility, discipline, and openness.
3. Conduct Expectations for Trainees
Trainees must adhere to the following standards:
3.1 Attendance and Participation
- Attend all scheduled sessions unless excused due to illness or emergency.
- Be punctual and prepared for every class, workshop, and practicum.
- Participate actively and respectfully.
3.2 Behaviour and Respect
- Treat peers, teachers, and staff with kindness and professionalism.
- Avoid disruptive behaviour and negative commentary during classes.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries with peers and faculty.
3.3 Dress and Hygiene
- Wear modest, appropriate clothing that supports ease of movement and comfort.
- Maintain personal hygiene to ensure a healthy shared environment.
3.4 Substance Use
- The use of alcohol, tobacco, or non-prescribed drugs is strictly prohibited on school premises.
- Trainees should refrain from attending class under the influence of any intoxicating substance.
3.5 Personal Conduct
- Sexual harassment, bullying, or discriminatory behaviour of any kind will not be tolerated.
- Romantic relationships between trainees and faculty during the course are discouraged due to power imbalances.
4. Conduct Expectations for Teachers and Staff
Teachers and staff are expected to:
4.1 Professionalism
- Act in the best interest of students’ physical and psychological well-being.
- Uphold a high level of skill, knowledge, and preparation in all teaching.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
4.2 Boundaries and Ethics
- Maintain clear and appropriate teacher-student boundaries.
- Avoid favouritism, discrimination, or any behaviour that may be construed as exploitative.
- Avoid initiating romantic or sexual relationships with current trainees.
4.3 Non-Discrimination
- Treat all individuals equally regardless of gender, race, age, religion, sexual orientation, nationality, or ability.
5. Anti-Harassment and Anti-Discrimination Policy
Harassment or discrimination of any kind is strictly prohibited. This includes but is not limited to:
- Sexual harassment.
- Verbal or physical abuse.
- Bullying or intimidation.
- Derogatory or offensive comments.
Any reports will be taken seriously and investigated promptly. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken based on the findings.
6. Grievance Procedure
If any individual feels that this Code of Conduct has been violated, they are encouraged to:
- Speak directly to the person involved (if they feel safe doing so).
- Report the issue confidentially to the school’s administration.
- Submit a formal written complaint if needed.
All grievances will be addressed respectfully, confidentially, and promptly.
7. Disciplinary Actions
Violations of the Code of Conduct may result in:
- Verbal or written warnings.
- Temporary suspension from training.
- Permanent expulsion from the course without refund.
- Reporting to relevant authorities in serious cases (e.g., assault, harassment).
8. Commitment to Ethics and Yogic Values
All members of Mrityunjay Yogpeeth are expected to uphold the core values of yoga:
- Ahimsa (non-violence) – acting with kindness and compassion.
- Satya (truthfulness) – being honest with oneself and others.
- Asteya (non-stealing) – respecting others’ time, space, and contributions.
- Brahmacharya (moderation) – exercising discipline and mindful conduct.
- Aparigraha (non-possessiveness) – releasing ego and attachment.
9. Agreement and Acknowledgement
All trainees and faculty must sign an acknowledgement indicating they have read, understood, and agreed to abide by this Code of Conduct. Breach of this policy may result in disciplinary action as outlined above.
